Origins Chocolate Bar

featured-openingchocolatebarIt’s amazing where theatre leads us…

A number of years ago Katey was performing in the Arts Club production of Mary Poppins. Through that production we came to know the incredible Verchere family who one day invited us to come to a chocolate tasting party at their home. Well, they had us at ch…

One tasting led to another, and we became more and more fascinated with the world of bean-to-bar, craft chocolate.  Thanks to the Vercheres and their resident international chocolate expert David Mincey of The Chocolate Project in Victoria, BC, we learned how cocoa beans are grown and made into chocolate, where cacao trees grow and how the flavours differ among growing regions.  And that craft chocolate tastes incredible.  And that there seemed to be no limit to how much chocolate we were willing to buy …

About a year and a half ago we visited David’s shop in Victoria, and within days we were talking about how perfect that kind of shop would be in the River Market in New Westminster.   That was April 2018.  At the end of August, we opened Origins Chocolate Bar – our very own bean-to-bar chocolate shop – in the River Market.

So… what does this all have to do with PSP?

Origins Chocolate Bar and Patrick Street Productions have more in common than you might think.  We are experiencing a lot of thematic crossover between the two.  Bean-to-bar chocolate makers search the globe for the best quality cocoa beans, crops that bear out the true character of their growing regions with flavour profiles that tell a unique story.  PSP scours the musical theatre world for great stories, told with clarity and integrity through words and music. From that foundational ingredient we draw together the artists with whom we can bring those stories to life, and deliver them to you beautifully and lovingly packaged into into something that you can sit with for a time, savouring the exceptional, unique tasting notes that have been crafted for your enjoyment and pleasure.

It has been wonderfully refreshing to take time to sit and savour something outside the realm of the theatre, and now we are excited to return to our first love and once again enjoy some exceptionally crafted theatre with you.

And if you’d like some gorgeous chocolate to enjoy as the lights go down, we can hook you up.
