Lance CardinalSet Designer
Lance Cardinal is very excited to be designing for his first PSPs production, The Light in the Piazza.  Originally from the Bigstone Cree Nation reservation in Desmairis, AB, Lance has become a main player in Vancouver’s professional theatre community in a remarkably short time.  Career highlights include a Jessie Richardson Award for his design for Carousel Theatre’s A Christmas Carol; a Jessie nomination for The Wind in the Willows, also with Carousel; and working as Lead Production Designer for Vancouver Opera in the school touring production of The Magic Flute: Quest for the Box of Shadows.  Lance was recently invited to take part in the 10-year anniversary celebrations for the Bigstone Cree Nation community school, a project that involved creating a new Theatre Arts Curriculum suitable for First Nation students never before exposed to the arts, and facilitating two seven-week theatrical workshops which included Dance, Drama, Puppetry and Music.  This proved to be a deeply rewarding experience.  At the final performance during the celebration ceremonies, the students presented a First Nations puppetry spectacular which included 70 children from the school dancing, speaking, drumming and parading. The performance told the story of their First Nations landscape from the beginning of time.  The giant life-sized puppets were designed by Lance and created together with the students.  Lance is currently in the middle of studies at Emily Carr University of Art and Design working toward a degree in Visual Arts – Sculpture, Illustration & Photography.  His influences include Tim Burton, Jim Henson, Walt Disney and anybody else who brings magic into people’s lives.
